From the farmer’s field to the mission field

Somehow, everything changes after the Fourth of July holiday. I can’t explain it, but even the weather seems to react to the shortening days.

My garden has been loving the rain and there are signs of harvest popping up all over the place.

Many of you know I decided to take some time off from regular farmers markets to prepare for a mission trip to Estonia in early August. I am counting on a rich harvest when I return and then, “it’s Salsa Season.”

I have many great customers, so I committed to some baking for Friday, July 11. It will be a pop-up market to support the mission team traveling to the Tartu Academy of Theology. I will be at the Jaycees Park on Century Ave., around the noon hour. I will keep you posted.

In preparation for our trip, I am currently re-reading “We Shall Live in Heaven,” by Pastor Harri Haamer (https://tatest.org/haamer-family/book/). We are also working on the lessons as a team throughout the weeks leading up to our departure on August 6.

While in Estonia we will be conducting an adult Bible study class and touring the camp where Pastor Haamer was held captive because of his religious beliefs 70 years ago. His legacy is carried on today by his son, Enoch, who passed away this year, and his grandson, Siimon.

It is a great honor to share in TAT’s mission and Charity Lutheran has been a partner of the Haamers for 20 years.

In response to my newfound attitude towards life, based on my cancer diagnosis, I prayed for good health to make this trip. And, now I have a favor to ask.

I am raising some funds for my trip and offering up the following at Friday’s pop-up.

• Sourdough bread (plain or honey wheat, maybe garlic scape)
• Banana Bread
• NEW jams — strawberry rhubarb, raspberry, St. Pepper buys Strawberry Fields (jalapeño strawberry — yum), chokecherry, and maybe a few odds and ends.
• PESTO — basil and garlic scape
• Fresh Dill

Stock is limited so I am taking orders only and will reveal the parking lot from which I vend after your response.

If you do not wish to purchase products, you can send monetary support to Charity Lutheran Church, 120 Aspen Ave., Bismarck, ND 58503. Please make checks out to Charity Lutheran and indicate Estonia Mission Team 2025 in the memo.

On a side note, my next scan is scheduled for the end of July, so please know that your prayers are more important than any other contribution you can make. FOR THAT and continued prayer for my health, I am eternally grateful.

Pre-orders can be made by sending a private message on Facebook or by replying to this post.

  2. Hi Sue, I would love a Jar of your Strawberry Rhubarb, and Raspberry Jams. I know you said you’d be there this Friday, but for how long? I have an appointment

  3. Bonnie, I will be there for at least a couple hours maybe longer if it’s not too rainy out I’m selling right out of my car so I’m not putting up a canopy. I don’t have the strength to do that.
